If you do come out, but get a negative reaction, don't despair. You might find it helpful to speak to some organisations, who are there to offer advice and support.

HGC AGM 5TH OCTOBER 2008
It hardly seems possible that another year in the life of HGC has gone by, but on Sunday, October 5th 2008, it is time once again for our annual meeting and election of officers. It will be at Paul and Andrew¡¯s home in St Albans from 4pm, to be followed by tea. Like most voluntary organisations our group only survives because of the hard work and commitment of a handful of people, and that has certainly been the case in recent years. Some of you may have seen that we now have an advert in Gay Times and this is placed in the hope of increasing our membership. Let us hope it bares fruit. Can I close by thanking all of those who turned out for Alan's funeral. It was really good to see friends old and new paying their respects to one of our long established members. At the last committee we agreed to make a donation of 100 pounds to the British Heart Foundation in Alan¡¯s memory .
Keith C, Chairman.

THE MUSEUM IN DOCKLANDS 11TH OCTOBER 2008
You'll see from the diary that Keith & Rob are organising a trip to the Museum in Docklands on Saturday 11th October. Situated near Canary Wharf, the Museum is housed in an early 19th Century sugar warehouse, and tells the history of the River Thames and the London docks from Roman times through to the closure of the central London docks in the 1970s and beyond. At the moment, it is also home to a major exhibition focussing on Jack the Ripper and the East End of the late 19th Century. If you are interested in coming along, or would like any more information, please contact us,

Your Sexual Health
In the not too distant past we used to regularly enclose sexual health information with the newsletter. This was because it was a good way for local health services to circulate information. With the NHS funding crisis, a lot of this work has been axed, but the threat of AIDS and other sexual diseases has not gone way. In fact in some areas they are actually increasing. If you need up-to-date advice then the website of the Terrence Higgins Trust is a good place to start. The link is www.tht.org.uk. It is packed with information, and there is a handy section where you can post questions and get answers.

News from Stonewall: Sexual Orientation Regulations 2007

Our long-awaited 'goods and services' protections came into force on 30 April 2007, an historic victory for Stonewall and others who campaigned for them. The Sexual Orientation Regulations 2007 will touch on the everyday lives of millions of lesbian and gay people across Britain.

Until now, gay people have had to put up with being turned away or treated unfairly by businesses and service providers simply because of their sexual orientation. Our campaign to secure the protections was motivated by widespread evidence of discrimination across both the private and public sectors.
